As I had mentioned yesterday in Linda’s Long Beach Portrait Shoot and on Twitter & Facebook, 2011 was bursting at the seams with Engagement Shoots, Portraits and Weddings I photographed from Newport Beach down to San Diego and all the way up to Oakland.  There was even the Military Promotion that went on throughout the end of 2011 and the Workshop I taught with my good friend & fellow photographer Danny in Paris France.

So to kick off 2012 properly with a totally romantic La Jolla Engagement Shoot with Laura & Josh is perfect!

Laura, Josh & I met down towards San Diego in La Jolla on Monday when the weather was, well let’s say… questionable.  It was totally gorgeous when I was driving down (even shared a photo on Facebook of the totally MEGA sky!), but as I got closer towards San Diego for their Engagement Shoot – I was starting to think; “Hmmm…”

But over the years, I’ve learned to not worry about it & roll with it.  Which was perfect because I wasn’t stressed about it & was totally love Love LOVING the gorgeous tropical & stormy sky we had for their Engagement Shoot.

Laura, Josh & I had a total blast throughout their entire Engagement Shoot on the sand in La Jolla.  There was a gentle breeze, the tide coming in and pleanty of seals and seagulls.  In fact, those pesky seagulls were just waiting for us to come a weeeeeeee bit closer too.  It was all fun & games as we joked saying how it’s good luck to get pooped on… But when one of them aimed for Josh – we all busted up laughing!  You’ll see the moment it happened with the expression on Laura’s face in one of the photos in the slide show too.  LOL!

By the time it was a wrap in La Jolla, we captured an awesome and diverse collection of photos during the Engagement Shoot.  I even had an opportunity to capture some of my Signature Night Romantic Portraits of them too!  I love Love LOVE it!!!

Nancy & Edwin were how shall I say… the kind of couple that I would imagine every photographer dreams of.  For starters, they gave me a full TWO HOURS to do portraits with them prior to the party.  Can I say “Wholly Nachos & Newcastles!”  What a totally great opportunity to not be rushed for the portraits and on top of that – the area we chose at the St. Regis was totally empty – pretty much giving us an entire perfectly manicured location all to ourselves.  All of this combined with Nancy in her Nicole Miller gown and Edwin in his Armani suit – took the shoot to the HNL!

Once we wrapped their portrait photographs, it was time for their Engagement Ceremony on the lawn overlooking the Pacific Ocean.  There was a full gathering of about 200 of their friends & relatives from around the country.  Their ceremony was decorated exquisitely by Elegant By Design and White Flite had about 2 dozen doves to be released at the end of their Engagement Ceremony.

Also, can I just say that Ms. Kelly Odell and Gundula Reile and the rest of the entire team of expert professionals at the St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort orchestrated a flawless symphony of service perfection.  From the moment everyone arrived – to the last dance and relaxing on the back lawn enjoying cigars from The Cigar Guys – everything was perfect.  They even made sure the timeline was so dialed in, that there was a break in the night where I could invite Nancy & Edwin on the back lawn with their Mercedes Benz to do some of my signature Night Romantic portraits of them under the moon-lit night sky.

Amy & Ron are getting married at the Wedgewood Golf Club Sterling Hills and one of the things we’ve been dying to do is their Engagement Shoot.  We were all chatting about the various things that they liked to do and one of them was Disneyland.  So we kicked off their Engagement Shoot at Disneyland, where we had some fun with a few people that had some awesome costumes as they were trick or treating.  When we first got there we saw Chewbacca from Star Wars and I was able to do an iPhone Portrait of all of us (Duran Rex too!) and shared it on Facebook that night.

After we wrapped up things at Disneyland, we headed to Downtown Fullerton where I was able to capture my Signature Night Romantic Portraits with them.  Amy & Ron have some serious chemistry between them and they both totally killed it in the photographs!

To wrap the night up properly, we popped into Branagan’s Irish Pub for a Celebratory Pint recapping the photo shoot’s events.  Things like our new friends; “Laurel & Hardy” who wanted to give Amy & Ron a “special wish” for their Engagement.  Or the “mystery something” that is in one of the photos that wasn’t there when I captured it and really sexy portraits in a club before people showed up and things got crazy.  All together it was one of those photo shoots that came together absolutely perfectly!

I would like to give a special shout out to Kristine & Jay with Darvoset.  They had given me permission to use one of their songs for UK Model; Jane Lavin’s Urban Glam Portrait Shoot in Los Angeles and they allowed me to use one of their mixes for Amy & Ron’s Engagement Shoot.  In fact… It happens to me a mix of “Night Runner” by Duran Duran.  Can I just say “Wholly Nachos & Newcastles!”  I think when you see the mixture of the photographs, music & passion in their Engagement Shoot – it’s very much a perfect fit.

If you happened to catch this week’s West Coast Wednesday Video Of The Week double feature with Boys Don’t Cry and by Kid Rock, then you read it was totally inspired by Adrienne & Jeremy’s Engagement Shoot at the Montage Resort Laguna Beach.  Well let me tell you!  I had the honour of photographing Adrienne & Jeremy last Thursday & to quote Keegan Michael Key’s character; Eugene Struthers from MadTV, Adrienne & Jeremy seriously took it to the “HNL.”

Today I have got a really playful and fun Engagement Shoot that I recently photographed of Nicole & Mark at the Union Station in downtown Los Angeles.

Nicole & Mark are having their wedding this summer at the Fallbrook Wedgewood down by San Diego and one of the things that they’ve invited me to do is their Engagement Shoot.  As we kicked around some various options that they liked, Union Station in downtown Los Angeles seemed to be a fantastic marriage of urban architecture, timeless romance and an opportunity for all of us to get to know each other better.

The three of us had a great time during their Engagement Shoot as we strolled around some of my favourite spots I love to capture photographs at and we even were able to sneak in a few portraits on the platform upstairs as we waited a bit for the train to leave.  I have to admit though every time I say the word; “Platform” – it reminds me of Harry Potter and my trip to London England for Erin & Philip’s Engagement Shoot.

Today I have got a really colourful and fun Engagement Shoot that I recently photographed of Adrienne and Matt at the Fullerton Arboretum.

Adrienne and Matt are going to be having their wedding this winter at the Fallbrook Wedgewood down by San Diego and one of the things that I’m doing with them was their Engagement Shoot.  We had chatted about what they would like, the fun they share together and enjoy being outdoors too and the one location that kept coming to mind for their Engagement Shoot was the Fullerton Arboretum, which was quite literally… Perfect!

Today I have got a really bright, colourful and fun Engagement Shoot that I recently photographed of Nikki & Mike down on Balboa Island in Newport Beach to share with you today.

One of the awesome things about being a Wedding Photographer in Huntington Beach, Newport Beach and San Diego is that I get to travel around Southern California to capture photographs in some really amazing locations.  One of the locations is a secret spot down in San Diego that I was at for Barbara & Steve’s Engagement Shoot.

We had a total blast during their shoot!  From the epic shots with the various San Diego buildings in the background, to the really romantic portraits we did of them kissing – it was a perfect way to kick off a weekend shooting!

The most recent amazing location is up in the Los Angeles mountains called Mentryville.  I’ve never heard of it before, so when Melissa & Justin said they wanted to do their Engagement Shoot / Family Portrait there, I totally looked it up and instantly became uber excited.

Mentryville was an 1880’s oil boom town built around its oil well, Pico No. 4. Named for Charles Alexander Mentry, the oil well’s tenacious driller—and later superintendent of the company that would become Chevron—Mentryville was home to over 100 families until the early 1930’s. Pico No. 4 went on to become the longest continually operating oil well in the world, closing in 1990. Historic buildings still stand including Charles Mentry’s grand thirteen-room mansion, a one-room school house, and a period barn. Mentryville and Pico No. 4 are registered as California State Historical Landmarks.

What is even better about Melissa & Justin’s Engagement Shoot is that Justin rode his completely restored Harley Davidson to the shoot.  Can I get a HECK YEAH!  I was originally going to ride my Ducati Multistrada to the shoot as well, but my plans were changed on that day as I was hired to photograph Selah & Fabian’s wedding at the Wedgewood Buenaventura.

We had a total blast during their shoot!  From the epic shots with Justin’s Harley Davidson, to the photos we did with the various locations there & then the silliness that ensued with an old stinky out house behind the school.  It was a perfect way to kick off a Sunday!
