With all the exciting photo shoots and events going on with Esquire Photography, like my next International Photography Workshop in London, England - it’s definitely an awesome 2012 so far.  And!  It’s only May!

I’m sure if you keep up with my blog, then you’re more than likely keeping up with my Twitter or Facebook updates, where you saw that I was in Downtown Fullerton photographing Monique & Cesar’s cousin; Tiffany for her totally epic Urban Seniour Portraits.

You probably remember Monique & Cesar because I photographed their Los Angeles Engagement Shoot at Union Station & The Edison and shortly after – photographed their La Habra Wedding & Reception at the Westridge Golf Club.  Along their personal events, I’ve had the honour of working with Monique and her Event Planning company; A Blissful Affair for Natalie’s Sweet 16 Party, their Dual Birthday Party & a more personal event for her and her family for Mike’s Celebration the day before before I left to teach my Workshop in Berlin, Germany.

So when I received a text message from Monique asking me if I was available for Tiffany’s Seniour Portraits, I couldn’t help but to say yes & start planning it.

Tiffany’s Urban Seniour Portrait Photo Shoot was in Downtown Fullerton was I was able to use all the textures, walls & scenery for her portraits. What was really unplanned for, but something that none of us could have even expected was when I was about to capture some photographs of Tiffany in front of a really awesome wall with a guitar on it and a guy came by to tell us the story of the wall.  As luck would have it, the wall is attached to the building where Fender Guitars was invented.  Can I say Wholly Nachos & Newcastles!

BUT!  Here’s the Twilight Zone part… Tiffany brought her acoustic guitar with her as a prop & here we were about to capture some portraits with her and this random wall which turned out to be a historical monument for Fender.  How cool is that!!!

Yes… you read that right… P A R I S,  F R A N C E!!!! WHEW HEW!!!

As I’m sure you’ve seen on Twitter & Facebook, 2011 was bursting at the seams with Engagement Shoots, Portraits and Weddings I photographed from Newport Beach down to San Diego and all the way up to Oakland.  There was even the Military Promotion that went on throughout the end of 2011 and the Workshop I taught with my good friend & fellow photographer Danny in Paris, France.

Ok… Now that you have an idea of a couple of the many things going on at Esquire Photography HQ in Newport Beach, I have to share with you Emma’s model shoot in Paris, France.

I first met Emma when I was in Paris, France with my friend Danny at the WOS Bar just down the street where he and I were staying.  Danny & I were hanging out at the WOS Bar having our daily consumption of pints when I asked Emma if she would like to model for us.  She slightly paused for a moment & happily said yes she would love to.  So from there – it was just a matter of picking the day for us to capture some awesome portraits of her and decide on where we would like to do her modeling portraits too.

When the day arrived for Emma’s model shoot, we obviously met up at the… you guessed it… the WOS Bar.  YEAH!!!  We chatted for a few moments to catch up on things, round up our gear and clothes & headed out for some totally epic street shooting.  As we found our way through the streets of Paris, there was an overflowing veritable cornucopia of spots to photographer her at.  From the totally MEGA buildings, to the cinema & then of course the Pantheon.

If you don’t know much about The Pantheon in Paris, France – check this out!  The Pantheon was originally built as a church dedicated to St. Genevieve, but after many changes now combines liturgical functions with its role as a famous burial place. It is an early example of Neoclassicism, with a facade modelled after the Pantheon in Rome surmounted by a dome that owes some of its character to Bramante’s “Tempietto”.

Cool yes!!!

Fast forward time… I’m back in Newport Beach photographing events like a crazy person (as to be expected!) and in the little bits & pieces of free time, I’ve been chipping away at Emma’s modeling shoot.  And now it is READY!!!!

I’m sure you had seen from me on Twitter & Facebook I was wrapping up 2011 with my Workshop I taught with my good friend & fellow photographer Danny in Paris France and then hopped a plan with my BFF & MEGA East Coast Photographer; Valerie to Berlin, Germany. Where I received the royal treatment of hospitality from my new friends, the cooks tour of Berlin from Valerie and a Portrait Photo Shoot of Christin & Christoph.

Valerie & I arrived at Graffiti Heaven U-Bahn station after an amazing boat ride on the Spree River through Berlin earlier that afternoon with friends.  Since we were a little early, Valerie introduced me to Curry Wurst, which is ahhhhhfreakin’mayyyyzeeeeng!  Once we enjoyed our Curry Wurst, we met up with Christin & Christoph for their Portrait Photo Shoot and that’s when the fun began.

Graffiti Heaven in Berlin, Germany is a photographer’s dream come true for photo shoots!  Everywhere we turned there was an exquisitely painted wall, building, debris, misc and random items that would be out of place anywhere else – was perfectly in symbiotic harmony at Graffiti Heaven.

The weather was perfect for Christin & Christoph’s Portrait Photo Shoot as it drizzled from time-to-time, but yet gave me the best light to have fun with them & capture their portraits.

What also made their portrait photo shoot special for me was I shot all their portraits with my totally manual operation Leica M8 and a vintage 35mm lens from 1958.  Having to slow down a bit gives me the opportunity to capture few photographs that are much more accurate along with having the ability to utilize a lens that’s far more superiour to anything from Canon & Nikon.  Basically I was using the best of German engineering for camera equipment in Berlin, Germany.  How cool is that!?!

As I’m guessing you had seen on Twitter & Facebook, 2011 was bursting at the seams with Engagement Shoots, Portraits and Weddings I photographed from Newport Beach down to San Diego and all the way up to Oakland.  There was even the Military Promotion that went on throughout the end of 2011 and the Workshop I taught with my good friend & fellow photographer Danny in Paris France.

But!  There was one photo shoot that I was dying to do – but it needed a little more homework for the location and wardrobe.

It was a portrait shoot of my Rock Star Client Concierge; Linda.  If you haven’t had the honour of chatting with, working with or even getting to know Linda yet, I really suggest that you do.  Your life will be richer because of it!

Linda & I first met nearly a decade ago when she hired me to capture some photos of her Girl Scouts troop.  From there & over the past ten years, Linda has hired me to do other photography projects for her – but more importantly to me, we’ve become really awesome friends.

Last year, my family business of nearly 30 years had some fantastic experiences, growing pains, a couple technology speed bumps and a few staff changes.  One of which was the need for a replacement assistant for me.  I needed someone I could trust not just with my business, but more importantly to me; my family name.  I had been advertising for nearly a year, chatting with people that were interested in the opportunity, but it wasn’t until Linda reached out to me that she had seen I was looking for someone & offered to see if I would be interested.

Fast forward several months later & armed with a Masters degree in Business & Marketing, Linda has the taken things over for me in a way that is unparalleled by previous assistants and other’s that have tried & failed for my not-to-unreasonable high expectations.  Not that what I expect is unreasonable, but I expect the same thing from others that work with me that I deliver every day and that is my best.

After returning from my trip to Paris AND Berlin shooting, for the workshop and getting caught up on nearly 2,000 emails – Linda & I got together at a secret location to do some portraits of her.  They’re also not just for Esquire Photography so people could put a face to her voice & emails – but I really wanted to to capture Linda’s fun, playful, serious & passionate persona.  AND!  I wanted to shoot it old school, so I broke out my Leica M8 armed with my 35mm lens from 1958 (Yes, you read that right & it was THE go to camera in Paris & Berlin!) and we proceeded to rock her photos in about an hour.  I absolutely prefer to shoot ALL manual as it forces me to get what I do in the camera about 99% accurate & the model has to slow down & get it right as well.  SAHWEET!

ALSO!  Check out the killer dog tag Linda is wearing by uber designer to the celebrities; Kate Mesta.  It screams Madonna with the colours and peace symbol on it.  So totally perfect and Linda got it for her birthday last month before I left for Paris & Berlin.  Awesome!

I’ve put together a rockin’ and fast slide show of just a few of my favourite photographs I captured during Linda’s Long Beach Portrait Shoot below.  I’ve also been able to license another song from the local Southern California MEGA band; Darvoset featuring; Kristine, Jay, Brian & Lindsay who you might remember in their MEGA Riverside Photo Shoot. The song is “Benign” and it has a certain edge, passion and creativity in it which is exactly perfect for Linda’s photo shoot!

Before I share this family’s story with you, I’ve got to share some more things that are happening in Newport Beach at Esquire Photography HQ.  Since I’m not only a caffeine addict, but also a Twitter & Facebook ’aholic, you probably saw that I had two very HUGE announcements recently.  One of which is the Military Promotion that launched.  I had the honour of giving it to Ali & Justin when I was up at Edward’s Air Force Base with both of their parents location scouting and going over details for their Lancaster Wedding Day I’m photographing for them next August.

The other HUGE announcement I shared was the Workshop I’m teaching with my good friend & fellow photographer Danny in Paris France.  Can I just say; “Wholly Nachos & Newcastles!”  So if you’re in Paris over Christmas break, totally let me know because the workshop is very affordable & only 100 Euros per person.

Ok, now I have to share this family’s story with you about their Long Beach annual holiday Portrait Shoot I recently photographed for them.

It’s an awesome story too!  I’ve been this family’s photographer for nearly 13 years and capturing photos of their daughter since she was two days old along with all the yearly parties and events.  It’s been an incredible experience for me throughout the years and with the holiday’s upon us – it was time for their annual holiday family portraits.

One of the greatest things for me about working with a family for so long, is I really get to know them over the years and, I’ve learned how to capture them and make it a fun time for all of us.  :-)

Before I share this family portrait with you, I’ve got to share some other things that are happening in Newport Beach at Esquire Photography HQ.  Over the weekend I shared on Twitter & Facebook two very HUGE announcements.  One of which is the Military Promotion that launched on Saturday.  I had the honour of giving it to Ali & Justin when I was up at Edward’s Air Force Base with both of their parents location scouting and going over details for their Lancaster Wedding Day I’m photographing for them next August.

A few years ago, I had the honour of photographing Stephanie & Lester’s gorgeous and romantic La Habra wedding.  Their wedding day was a blast & since then – we’ve all kept in touch and wouldn’t you know it – they had a little baby girl recently with the cutest nick-name; “Baby G.”  I love Love LOVE it!

Baby G is a totally MEGA cute little “Scooby Snack” too.  But even more fun is she has Lester wrapped right around her little teensie weensie fingers.  She’s definitely the sparkle in both her parent’s eyes!

We had a lot of fun for their family portraits and as I was sorting them out, I couldn’t decide which two or three to share with you – so I put together a slide show with a nice collection of my favourites from their photo shoot.

Ok, now I have to share Sarah’s story with you about her Huntington Beach Portrait Photo Shoot we recently did.  A short while ago I received a call from my good friend; JT with Dance Masters about a friend of his who’s long time friend’s daughter; Sarah needs a photo shoot done for her portfolio for The Ford Modeling Agency.  A few phone calls, emails and an awesome meeting at Starbucks in Belmont Shore later – Sarah & I met up in Huntington Beach for her photo shoot.

I love photographing in Huntington Beach too.  I can pretty much capture everything from beach portraits to urban and relaxed portraits within one square mile.  Which was perfect for Sarah’s photo shoot too because we were going to do a few different looks.

Also, thank you Mindi “Cupcake” Combs for doing the hair & makeup stylings for Sarah’s portrait photo shoot.  You helped make her photographs amazing & it totally shows in her pictures!

AND!  The rockin’ Kristine, Jay, Brian & Lindsay from Darvoset provided a new song for Sarah’s photo shoot.  It’s one of my favourites that they recently performed and I’m totally MEGA excited to share it with you!

Last weekend I had the honour of photographing Ashley & David for their holiday portraits.  Their romantic portraits started in front of the Segerstrom Building at the Orange County Performing Arts Center and then at the garden across the street too.  David & Sheldon strutted in their custom tuxedos and Ashley rocked the “Audrey Hepburn Movie” she picked up at Bloomingdales in Santa Monica when we went Shopping a few weeks ago.  The Spirit of Duran Rex even made a cameo appearance as well!

If Ashley & David look familiar, it’s because you may have seen their photographs from their totally fun Disneyland Engagement Shoot where we met “King David” or their out of this world Monterey Wedding.  So to be invited to capture their Romantic Holiday Portraits for their Christmas cards left me with nothing more than to say; Heck Yeah!  :-)

Over the years I have had the honour of meeting thousands of people.  All the way from San Diego to Seattle, from Chicago to New York, from Miami to London and even here in Newport Beach.  Well among my many travels and people I get to work with, I get to really know some of my clients really well.  One of which is Terri – my long time client turned “Dinner & Shopping” partner-in-crime to BFF over the past 11 years.

A few months ago when Terri went with me to see Curt Smith from Tears For Fears perform a private concert for Brit Week at the Whitefire Theatre when I got two free tickets from the British Consulate in Los Angeles – we inevitably turned it into a business meeting because she wanted to hire me to do portraits of her parents.

Fast forward after several emails, text messages, calls and even an outing in Santa Monica where I discovered my favourite mojito made with oranges & jalapenos – the portrait shoot of her parents came to life in Seal Beach.

Along with the classic green belt where Terri’s parents went for a bit of a stroll, I have a few secret spots in Seal Beach that I love to use and are totally perfect for doing portrait photography.  In fact, I had a few I really loved and wanted to share with you tonight now that I’ve finished putting on my Esquire Mojo on them.  I even used some proprietary techniques I’ve been working on this year to take a few years off along with enhancing the symphony of colours that were abundant that day.

PS, If you’ve been keeping up with my Facebook and Twitter updates – then you have seen my Rock Star Client Concierge; Linda chiming in every now & then.  Linda is a long time client, turned BFF for nearly 9 1/2 years.  She’s recently joined this Nacho & Newcastle lovin Newport Beach Wedding Photographer and is already keeping up with my awesome signature service I deliver to my clients.  I’m receiving notes from brides – some of which saying: “OMG, I LOVE Linda!!” and “She should be a life coach!”  Uhmmm… Between Linda & Duran Rex getting all that attention – I’m starting to get a little jealous.  HeHeHe!
