Speaking of my Workshop in Paris, France…  With all the exciting Engagement Shoots, Portraits and Weddings I’ve been capturing photographs of from Newport Beach down to San Diego and all the way up to Oakland – that’s one change of scenery and schedule that I’m excited to experience.

Speaking of experiences… The holidays are upon us & I saw a really disturbing photo that I shared on Facebook earlier today.  I put it just to the right & totally felt it needed to be a part of this year’s Christmas West Coast Wednesday Video Of The Week.

Before I share today’s West Coast Wednesday Video Of The Week with ya, I’ve got to share some more things that are happening in Newport Beach at Esquire Photography HQ.  Since I’m not only a caffeine addict, but also a Twitter & Facebook ’aholic, you probably saw that I had two very HUGE announcements this past weekend.  One of which was the Military Promotion that launched on Saturday.  I had the honour of giving it to Ali & Justin when I was up at Edward’s Air Force Base with both of their parents location scouting and going over details for their Lancaster Wedding Day I’m photographing for them next August.

The other HUGE announcement I shared was the Workshop I’m teaching with my good friend & fellow photographer Danny in Paris France.  Can I just say; “Wholly Nachos & Newcastles!”  So if you’re in Paris over Christmas break, totally let me know because the workshop is very affordable & only 100 Euros per person.

Ok, now I’m ready to share some funkiness with you for today’s West Coast Wednesday Video Of The Week.  You probably already know how much of a MEGA HUGE fan I am of Duran Duran.  Well they recently dropped a new music video that’s making all kinds of headlines.  Things like getting more than FOUR MILLION views in less than a week.  But that’s not the really awesome part.  Duran Duran’s “Girl Panic” music video is currently BANNED on MTV & VH1.  Can I say – AWESOME SAUCE all the way!  It’s like it’s the early 80′s all over again & Duran Duran‘s “Girls On Film” was banned.

So I think it goes without saying that today’s West Coast Wednesday Video Of The Week needs to be Duran Duran‘s “Girl Panic” AND “Girls On Film.”  WHEW HEW!

Before I share today’s West Coast Wednesday Video Of The Week from straight out of Orange County, I totally want to give you a taste of last night’s festivities at LA Fashion Week’s party with Kate Mesta.

In the past few days you may have seen some of my Facebook and Twitter updates that I was hired again by the amazing jewelry designer to the celebrities; Kate Mesta – who I had the honour of working with at the Oscars Party at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles and of course the out of this world Los Angeles Portrait Photo Shoot that I did with UK model & actress; Jane Lavin and more recently LA Fashion Week.  So when I received a call from Kate’s publicist; Sondra that they wanted to hire me to capture the American Music Awards Pre Party on Saturday – I immediately said yes!

As if that wasn’t awesome enough, I was in Camarillo to photograph Amy & Ron for their totally gorgeous wedding at the Wedgewood Golf Club Sterling Hills.  You probably recently saw Amy & Ron’s Anaheim Engagement Shoot at Disneyland & Downtown Fullerton – which was totally amazing and just the tip of the iceberg of fun I had with them on Sunday.

Then that brings me to 48 hours ago on Monday with something that I was very happy to do.  While I’ve been putting in epic hours of post production working on more than 1/4 million photos to shrink the delay time from the AT&T debacle this fall AND shooting up to 4 days a week all over Orange County, San Diego, Ventura & more…  I received a note from Kristine from the mega awesome band Darvoset about a week ago they wanted to green light a photo shoot with me for some marketing materials for the soon to be released BRAND NEW CD and LIVE PERFORMANCE on November 29th at Slidebar in Fullerton.

Uhm… Hmm… WHOLLY EFFIN NACHOS & NEWCASTLES!

So after an awesome 10 hour day Monday returning as many emails as I could after being out of my office for nearly three days & nights straight and a meeting with Kate Mesta in Laguna Beach for a couple hours, I zoomed in Rio out to PRIMO Studios in Riverside to do a shoot with Darvoset.  To give you an idea of the experience, I shared a couple photos on my Facebook Fan Page.  There was a photography from the Portrait Session, a photograph of them Rehearsing and of course… a guest appearance from Duran Rex.  YEAH!

If you don’t know much about Darvoset, check out this bit from their bio, it’s awesome!  “DARVOSET are an Inland Empire, Los Angeles, and Orange County based band that plays Synth oriented rock music with powerful and sultry female lead vocals. Harsh, melodic, electronic rock that’s dark, energetic, sexy, danceable, funky, and very original.

The core of Darvoset has always consisted of JAY (synths, bass, guitars, lyrics) and KRISTINE (vocals, lyrics). Various members come and go, and BRIAN (keys) is the latest full time member of the band making Darvoset a trio… for now.  For live concerts, Darvoset hires musician colleagues to complete the sound laid down on recordings.  At the moment, GARRON GASH (guitar) and LINDSAY ROGERS (bass) join them onstage.

Darvoset strive to defy categories and blandness.  They do not want to be put in a box, labeled, and sealed away.  The best way to describe them is a “musical sponge.”  They soak up all that has been, mix it together, and spit it all out as Darvoset.  They love all kinds of music, and that’s evident in their diverse songwriting palette: classical, jazz, ragtime, and symphonic influences are easy to hear.  Not ignoring the rock era; such as 50′s piano based rock and roll; 60′s British invasion; 70′s disco freaks and punk looks/attitudes; 80′s new wave style and synth pop dance explosions.

Darvoset’s Sexual, jaded, metaphoric, sometimes screaming but still thought provoking lyrics twist on top of horror soundtracks set to hyper kinetic drum patterns-to make the future they want to hear.“

If you saw an update on Facebook or Twitter updates yesterday, you may have seen the excitement in my notes about one of my favourite artists performing on Monday for Halloween.  He’s going to be in Orange County at Sutra in Costa Mesa too (Here’s one of my iPhone photos from the event on Facebook).  And… I recently was there for Above & Beyond – which was probably one of the more out of this world performances I’ve seen by a DJ team in years.

The artist that I’m referring to is none other than Paul Oakenfold with his European label; Perfecto Records.  YEAH!!!

If you don’t know much about Paul Oakenfold, check out this bit from his bio, it’s littler just the tip of the iceberg for his career and it’s awesome!  “Paul has produced for megastars such as U2, Madonna (including her latest release “Celebration”) and The Happy Mondays. As well as three acclaimed artist albums under his own name. He has remixed Michael Jackson, The Rolling Stones and Justin Timberlake and released over 20 DJ mix compilations.

In recent years Paul has also been responsible for creating some of the most breathtaking film scores and cues for a long list of Hollywood blockbusters – including The Bourne Identity, Matrix Reloaded, Shrek 2, Swordfish and Collateral. But his most anticipated release is yet to come. Before I share today’s West Coast Wednesday Video Of The Week from straight out of Orange County, I totally want to give you a taste of last night’s festivities at LA Fashion Week’s party with Kate Mesta.

In the past few days you may have seen some of my Facebook and Twitter updates that I was hired again by the amazing jewelry designer to the celebrities; Kate Mesta – who I had the honour of working with at the Oscars Party at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles and of course the out of this world Los Angeles Portrait Photo Shoot that I did with UK model & actress; Jane Lavin.  So when I received a call from Kate’s publicist; Sondra a few days ago that they wanted to hire me to capture the party last night at LA Fashion Week, I couldn’t say anything other than; “But of course!”

To say that last night was anything short of incredible would not be enough.  I got a quick iPhone Photo with Boo Boo Stewart from Twilight while I was rockin’ my favourite jacket from SLS Distributors (I’m also Stefan’s Resident Photographer there – cool!) on the red carpet and because I just couldn’t hold back – I snuck in an Impromptu Photo Shoot with Kate & Sondra’s awesome kids; Makenna & Dylan.

Ok….. that’s enough of last night.  I don’t want to give it all away.  You’ll have to see all the fun we had in the photos I’ll be sharing.  HeHeHe!

The other day my sister; Tawnya (Here’s her awesome Sunset Temecula Wedding at the opulent Falkner Winery) shared the really fun video; “Sexy And I Know It” with me from LMFAO.  I pretty much didn’t know what to do while watching LMFAO’s music video.   Was I supposed to be like; “Oh no they didn’t!” or laugh my butt off or totally groove out to the song.  I think it was pretty much a combination of all three!

Steve Jobs was more than everything he will be remembered for to me.  To me, Steve Jobs helped shape my world with the tools I use in my life.

To me, Steve Jobs did more than that.  Steve Jobs gave me hope.

Hope that one person can make a difference, hope that one person can change the world.

So with that brief thought that I couldn’t wait to share with you later – I leave you with this…

If you ever doubted one person could make a difference and change the world.

It’s time to change the way you think.  It’s time to “Think Different.”

If you’re asking yourself why or have any doubts…

This is the face of one man that did.

I really love the message in that commercial and I truly feel that we should all think about what the message is in it.  It’s about the “crazy ones”, “the misfits”, and more.  In a way, the commercial really speaks to me and I have a sneaky suspicion that it speaks to a lot of you as well.

So if it does, let’s celebrate our diversity, our uniqueness, our willingness to push the limit in the human spirit, our creative self and each other.  On top of it all, let’s be thankful that we all are different and that we’re looking to make things better.  Let’s be thankful that we don’t accept mediocrity, sloth and “middle of the road.”  Let’s be thankful that the driven and zealous mind and spirit will constantly seek to do better the next time, even if the next time is now.

PS, If you’ve been keeping up with my Facebook and Twitter updates – then you have seen my Rock Star Client Concierge; Linda chiming in every now & then.  Linda is a long time client, turned BFF for nearly 10 years.  She’s recently joined this Nacho & Newcastle lovin Newport Beach Wedding Photographer and is already keeping up with my awesome signature service I deliver to my clients.  I’m receiving notes from brides – some of which saying: “OMG, I LOVE Linda!!” and “She should be a life coach!”  Uhmmm… Between Linda & Duran Rex getting all that attention – I’m starting to get a little jealous.  HeHeHe!

PSS, I’m about to rock one of my Signature High Fashion photo shoots of Linda too.  I’ve got a couple locations in Newport Beach and Huntington Beach that I’m going to take her for her photo shoot.  She’ll knock it out of the park for sure!

One thing it didn’t do was take away the thought of what I wanted to share with you for this week’s West Coast Wednesday Video Of The Week.  So take that Mr. Funky Stomach.  Muah Hah Hah!

That said, riddle me this – what do you get when you combine vocalist; Simon Le Bon, keyboardist; Nick Rhodes, drummer; Roger Taylor & Mr. “Play That Fookin’ Bass John!” bassist John Taylor?  Only the BEST band in the world.  Or otherwise known as Duran Duran.  Yeah!

(SPOILER ALERT! If you’re planning on going to see Duran Duran on tour this year.)

If you were at the Duran Duran concert last week, then you noticed they were one song short in their signature song list.  A surprise to several thousands of fans and me as well.  I actually thought they were going to do another encore because it is so deeply seeded in their brand.  But alas, they didn’t.

The song that was missing was “Girls on Film” and if you’re thinking; “No Way! That can’t be!” – I must say it was, but they did play a lot more of their new material and even mixed in some seriously awesome Frankie Goes To Hollywood with “Relax.”

PPSS, The third video was recently shared with me on Google+ and I thought I would share it with you.  It’s a video of a 29 year old woman that was deaf, but heard her voice for the first time.  Being a person that is hearing impaired and born deaf in my right ear, I can appreciate this experience to a point.  Also, being hearing impaired is probably one of the reasons why I absolutely love music so much.

Speaking of – be sure to pop over to my Facebook Fan Page for some of the latest antics with Esquire Photography’s mascot; “Duran Rex.”  He’s definitely been Getting Silly with everyone lately, especially the ladies - he’s quite the charmer and it’s pretty obvious in his smile showing off his pearly white chompers.  HeHe!

Ok… back to the West Coast Wednesday Video Of The Week.

If  you had recently seen on either Facebook or Twitter this past Saturday, I was sharing some really fun photos (like the funky one of Curt Smith in this post) from the Tears For Fears concert I attended with my good friend; Carri, her BFF Kai & Carri’s other BFF and a new friend for me; Andye at the Wiltern Theatre in downtown Los Angeles.

“Tears for Fears are an English new wave band formed in the early 1980s by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith.

Founded after the dissolution of their first band, the mod-influenced Graduate, they were initially associated with the New Wave synthesizer bands of the early 1980s but later branched out into mainstream rock and pop, which led to international chart success.

Uhmm… Yup.  I think they’ve got quite an amazing history of success in their career.  Plus you might remember the amazing experience I had when I met Curt Smith earlier this year at a private concert for Brit Week the British Consulate put on at the Whitefire Theatre.  He knew who I was!  But more amazing to me – Curt knew who I was as “Esquire Photography” – which is so much more meaningful to me.  Wholly Nachos & Newcastles!

Plus, that was when it was proven to me that sharing our experiences is awesome.  After the concert at the Whitefire, I received a note from Carri telling me how much it meant to her that I was sharing the photos & captions of the event, because she wasn’t able to be there.  Which is the whole reason why I love to share with others through photos & words online – as we’re not able to be at events that we would like to at times.

Taking a stand against all odds for something you believe in or maybe even something or someone you love.  Regardless of what it is, at some point in our lives – we have to take a stand.

If you’re a child of the 80′s, a movie buff or have been on Planet Earth (I swear, I wasn’t going for a Duran Duran pun!  Or was I???), then the chances are greater than 50% and as high as 100% you have seen this image from one of the most amazing movies in 1989; “Say Anything” with John Cusack by Cameron Crowe with the title song: “In Your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel.

Now what exactly does that have to do with today’s West Coast Wednesday you ask?  Well… for me – pretty much everything.  Last night I was on the phone with my good friend; Grant Oakes in Colorado chatting about his Master Class at WPPI Online in 2012 titled: “So, You Want To Be A Wedding Photographer.”

During our call, he mentioned the “Live Forever” video that Kodak put together & said I should check it out when we got off the phone.  Well, I did and I was so totally moved.  It was about how important photography is to us a people, as friends, spouses, lovers and just about everything else we are to each other in this world.

So many moments in the video affected me as I understand the importance of what photography is in our lives.  How it moves us, changes us, reminds us, breaks us, inspires us and in some cases – changes us.  Then there was a quote about photography, that stuck with me and I really need to share it with you.  Check this out!

“The Pictures, they’re talking.  You have to be very, very quite, you can hear them.

They’re saying:

Keep me
Protect me
Share me
And I will live forever.”

How many millions of words can be spoken just by looking at a wedding album or a shoe box of photos?  I bet if you were to look at a photo of your wedding cake, you can remember how it tastes.  The flowers – how they smelled so totally amazing.  The sun on your face, the wind in your hair and then more importantly – the memories and experiences we can relive through our photography.  Toss in all the stories behind what is going on in the photos and you have a priceless work of art regardless of how simple the photograph.

For me, I take photography very personally.  It’s something that I keep very close to my heart and live, eat & breathe it.  When I deliver my client’s photography to them – I want it to be the absolute best that it can be whether they commissioned me to be their photographer for $5.00, $5,000 or $5,000,000.  Either way – I love photography and I want to make a positive difference in this world one photograph at a time.

There’s also the “Think Different” ad by Apple.  It’s one of the best motivational videos that I’m in love with & believe in 100%.  With this Apple video, the entire script is volumuous to me, but to wrap it up in one quote from the video would be: “The people who think they are crazy enough to change the world, are the one that do.”

For my last video I want to share with you, it typically would be “Rio” by Duran Duran.  But something inside me says to share “Ordinary World” by Duran Duran instead.  Which makes sense for today’s special edition West Coast Wednesday Video Of The Week.  And…. if you’re wondering why, it’s because of Anna Marie & Lee’s Pasadena Engagement Shoot.  Where when we were leaving the Huntington Gardens, I nearly dropped my camera on the ground at the same time my jaw hit the ground when we rounded the corner to my favourite spot at the Huntington Garden where they filmed the “Money Shot” of Duran Duran walking past the camera on the ground with black suits and no shoes on in the video; “Ordinary World.”

“Super Duper PSS,” If you’ve been keeping up with my Facebook and Twitter updates – then you have seen that I’ve brought on two new people to join me in Newport Beach to be a part of the Esquire Photography family.  YAY!

Here is the really cool part.  Both people joining me I’ve known for nearly 10 years. Crazy!  The first person I brought on board is Linda and she will be the official new “Client Concierge” handling a lot of the back end of the business and a lot of my correspondence.  Linda is a long time client, turned BFF for nearly 9 1/2 years.  She joined me this past week and is already keeping up with my awesome signature service I deliver to my clients.  I’m receiving all sorts of notes from brides – some of which saying: “OMG, I LOVE Linda!!” and “She should be a life coach!”  Uhmmm… can I just say; “Wholly Nachos & Newcastles!”

The second addition to the Newport Beach Wedding Photography team is BJ who will be handling all of my books.  I’ve known BJ for about 9 years through Katherine as they’ve both been BFF’s nearly their entire lives.  But when BJ recently told me that she brought another Orange County client up to date from January 1st to July 31st of this year – all in about five hours.  Also pointing out to me that she is to numbers and finances like I am to people and photography.  Pretty much pushed me over the edge for me to bring her on board & we started to exchange information straight away.  I’ve already referred my friend & colleague photographer; Melinda to BJ when she saw my note on Twitter.

If  you had recently seen on either  Google+, Facebook or Twitter a couple of my updates – that I’ve brought on a terrific Client – turned close friend over 9 years working together; Linda – who will be my new “Client Concierge.”  Linda will be working remotely at “EPHQ Long Beach” handling a lot of the correspondence for the business as I’ve been spending a lot more time behind the camera.

The other awesome addition is BJ who I’ve known through Katherine for nearly 9 years as well.  BJ is one of Katherine’s oldest & closest BFF’s and she’ll be handling all of Esquire Photography’s books remotely from Orange County.  Having BJ on board is a very surreal for me because I’ve been taking care of my books for a veerrrrrrrrry long time.

BUT!  Having them on board means something really HUGE.  I’ll get to shoot more photos, edit more photos and spend more time with my friends & clients.  YEAH!!!!

Back to West Coast Wednesday.  I don’t know about you, but I’m sipping on my cup of coffee and with a little bit of fat free Hazelnut creamer in it, it’s a great way to keep this awesome week happening.

As I was sipping on my first cup of coffee earlier – I remembered a music video that was shared with me by one of my “Tweeps” on Twitter.  It’s called “Black Coffee” by Humble Pie for this week’s West Coast Wednesday Video Of The Week. If you’re not too familiar with Humble Pie, I had to dig deep in my brain to remember as they’re a rock band from England, finding success both in the UK and the US.   Another one of those bands from the UK that I love.  Awesome!

Ok! If you may have seen yesterday or were chatting with me, I was calling yesterday TRex Tuesday.  Kinda in honour of DRan Rex and it being one more day closer to West Coast Wednesday. Which I might add was inspired by DRan Rex (The Official Esquire Photography Mascot) and yesterday being “TRex Tuesday” – RWARRRRRWW!!
