maylapug0019aGood Evening Everyone!  I just got back in my wee little office in Huntington Beach, California after spending a fantastic night in Los Angeles at the Pictage User Group (Otherwise known in the “biz” as PUG).  And, if you’ve been watching my Tweets tonight, then I’m sure you already know that & what I’m about to share with you.  wink wink!

A very well known wedding photographer that I look up to & respect; Joe Buissink was a guest speaker tonight & I’m so glad that I attended.  He chatted about shooting from the heart, having a passion for what you do and loving your craft.  I absolutely enjoy listening to Joe share his thoughts and each time that I’ve seen him speak – he’s built on his presentation more & more.

What was really cool, was that so many of my good friends were there too!  Emily Engle & Debra Gerson both terrific photographers and also from Pictage, Lauren Hillary the co-creator from Go|Bee Bags with Sara France (another awesome photographer!) who just interviewed me for the Pictage Blog and also a terrific photographer out of Orange County & my good friend; Roberto Valenzuela from the uber popular podcast conversation we had with him about shooting zebra’s butts on Camera Dojo.

Here are a few of my favourites snaps from tonight’s event & I hope you’re having a great West Coast Wednesday – cheers!

dojopodcast-61x140Good morning from Huntington Beach, California everyone!  I wanted to share a quick bit with you about how to best plan and deal with traveling in your photography business.

We chat about issues when traveling such as making sure you are prepared, how to pack tripods and light-stands, watching your equipment, and deciding what to take.  Not to mention that as of June 1st, you are required by Federal law to have a US Passport (or the equivalent) to travel between the US, Mexico, Canada & the Caribbean.

I hope you find it not only interesting but informative, helping you be a better world traveler in the “biz” too.  If you would like to subscribe to the podcast on iTunes, just click the button below & have a super week – cheers!

Good evening from Suffolk, Virginia everyone!  I’m writing to you from my room at the Hilton Garden Inn in Suffolk, Virginia instead of my office behind the “Orange Curtain” in Huntington Beach, California.

I have a fantastic story for you about my endeavour to the East Coast for Jennifer & Paul’s wedding.  I first met Jennifer at Amber & Robert’s Wedding back in June 2007.  So when Jennifer & Paul got engaged they quickly snagged me up for their wedding today.

I arrived Thursday night / Friday morning so I could adjust to the time change & rest up because I wanted to go to Jennifer & Paul’s Rehearsal Dinner. Which would be a perfect opportunity for me to introduce myself to the rest of the family & of course capture some candids too (Imagine that, me take pictures at an event!).

I met up with Jennifer and her entourage today while they were getting ready at The Hilton Garden Inn and it was like I was already family because we got to meet each other at the Rehearsal Dinner.  We had a blast hanging out and after all the ladies were ready, we were all whisked away in a black stretch limo to Jennifer & Paul’s home in Suffolk.  At their home they had their backyard decorated along with a coi pond in a garden and a handmade gazebo that Paul carved and built for their day.

Their wedding ceremony was serene as the sun was setting behind the forest just beyond their fence kissing everyone with a soft spring glow.  After the wedding, we utilized the gazebo that Paul made along with the garden and vase of sand as a backdrop for their portraits.  And, as soon as we were done, everyone loaded back into the stretch limo and we all headed back to The Hilton.

The back steps of The Hilton were prepared for us to do larger family portraits and I even captured Paul sneaking in a kiss with Jennifer at the bottom of the steps as were were waiting for a few more family members to show up.

Jennifer and Paul’s reception was a blast! From the tunes being spun by DJ Trevor Gavin at DJ on the Side Entertainment to the delicious cake and the killer groom’s cake which was a pool table, to the photo booth for all sorts of fun snaps for the scrapbook that was put together during the reception.  And, yes – I popped in the booth a few times (with my sunglasses of course! LOL!).

If you’re ever in Suffolk, Virginia, be sure to contact Mr. Brian Williams; The General Manager at the Hilton Garden Inn for the full red carpet treatment.  Mr. Williams along with his staff, aka; my new friends: Brittany (who was my impromptu photo assistant during the Rehearsal Dinner), Christine who took care of everyone’s cool beverages during the reception, Natalie who chatted with me and told me about all the what’s to do’s in Suffolk and one of the best guys yet; Tony at the front desk who not only made my check in at 2:00 a.m. be a breeze after arriving a couple hours late because of a broke down plane, but he really treated me like I was a good friend & not just guest #123.

I hope you enjoyed the video and story about Jennifer & Paul’s wedding day that I had the honour to be a part of and enjoy your Memorial Day weekend – cheers!

  • gwentundermann - Beautiful! I can’t believe we both traveled to VA for weddings last weekend! Too bad we were a couple hours apart and had weddings on the same day. It would have been fun to shoot together!

  • David Hubbard - Dave and I want to thank you so very much for doing the Wedding Photography at Jenn and Paul’s special day in May. Your energy and talent draws the audience to create those memorable moments. We’ve heard nothing but raves from those in attendance. You won’t soon be forgotten, especially the pics in the sunglasses. We are looking forward to the full portfolio. Take care.
