Good Morning Everyone!  It’s Baby Friday and I have a different kind of Wedding Tip Of The Week to share with you today and it’s not from Huntington Beach, but Newport Beach, California too.

Actually, this week’s Wedding Tip is from Ashley who I just had the honour of photographing with her fiance; David at Disneyland & Disney’s California Adventure for their Engagement Shoot last Saturday the 13th over Valentine’s Day weekend.

So let’s say you’re a newly engaged Orange County bride (or groom!) and you’re finding yourself bogged down with wedding planning, questions from family and everything else that goes into taking over a country – er… I mean planning a wedding – then I really believe Ashley has some true, honest & insightful information that may help you take some of the burden off your shoulders & put things a little more into perspective.

But before I present you with this week’s wedding tip and you’re thinking… Hey – I’d really like to get to know this Orange County Wedding Photographer in Huntington Beach, California, feel free to Contact Me on the Website or send me an email direct at david@esquirephotography.com.  You can also stay in touch with me in “real time” on Twitter, Facebook and my Facebook Fan Page too.

And without further ado, here is this week’s Wedding Tip Of The Week & have a great Baby Friday – cheers!

From One Bride To Another
By Ashley Drake

When my fiancé, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him, at Disneyland—I put out the wrong hand, cried and nodded.  Fifteen minutes later, I said: “you know I said yes, right?”  He giggled and kissed me.

The next day, we woke up, and started calling our families—still in bed, pajamas and not showered.  There were so many questions, and we hadn’t even been engaged 8 full hours!  What is the date?  Where are you getting married?  Where are you registered? These people couldn’t be serious!  All of these questions—in less than 8 hours.

Would I have to spend the rest of the year answering this onslaught of questions with “I Don’t knows?”  David (my fiancé) and I made a deal, that I would not turn into wedding planning crazy bride until after the first of the year.

One thing, when planning your wedding is to keep the end goal in mind.  The idea behind a wedding is to get married.  Your marriage should be the focus of your wedding.  Your wedding should represent you as a couple—not you as a bride, or him as the groom—but your couple-hood.

My fiancé and I have planned almost everything together.  Our wedding is representative of OUR couple hood.  Have a vision, know what you want and go for it.  Have fun together.  We found our wedding spot while on a weekend getaway.  We were at a spot, and David said –“too bad we can’t get married here.  It’s perfect for us.  We have to come back.”  I responded, “Why can’t we?”   As soon as you find something that works, and is within your budget, go for it.

Here are a couple of “do’s and don’ts” that I came up with:

Do keep to a vision of your wedding that is true to your partner and yourself and is representative of your relationship. If you are a casual couple, have a casual wedding.  If you are fancy people, go ahead with a fancy wedding.  Don’t do anything just because you think you should.  If you don’t want to have a cake, you want to have pie, go for it!!

Do keep organized. Write things down, take notes on things you need.  Don’t buy an expensive wedding organizer, you don’t need one.  Keep track of appointments in whatever fashion works for you.  I have a day planner; I can take notes, and keep it in my purse.  It’s small, goes everywhere with me, and has a place for all of my vendor business cards.

Don’t let friends work at your wedding. If your sister-in-law is a great photographer, and wants to do your wedding for a great price—TELL HER NO.  Your family and friends should enjoy your wedding—not have to work at it.

Do spend money where you think it would be spent best. If it is important to you to have a designer wedding gown—get one.  If good food is more important, go ahead and skimp on the flowers.

I am by no means an expert, and not a wedding planner.  I’m just a future bride, hopelessly in love with my perfect match.  Our wedding will represent us, your wedding should represent you.

Before I share Brooke & Eric’s wedding at The Wedgewood Banquet Center in Ventura, California and you’re thinking to yourself… Hey – I’d really like to get to know this Orange County Wedding Photographer in Huntington Beach, California that shoots in the OC and in San Fernando Valley – feel free to Contact Me on the Website or send me an email direct at david@esquirephotography.com.  You can also stay in touch with me in “real time” on Twitter, Facebook and my Facebook Fan Page too.  Shoot, if you’re reading this tonight, you’ll probably catch me online right now.

You’ve probably seen other weddings that I have photographed at the Wedgewood in Ventura, like Callie & Mike’s Wedding or perhaps Amanda & Mike’s Wedding.  Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to photograph weddings and events at various properties in Orange County, Los Angeles, the valley & other cities in the US and I must say that Sarah and her team at the Wedgewood Banquet Center in Ventura definitely makes sure to roll our the red carpet in customer service.

The Wedgewood in Ventura has been a staple of excellence for over 20 years and since 1994, they’ve been awarded “Ventura County’s Best Banquet Facility.”  The location is a perfect golf course setting less than 2 miles from the ocean – which was great for Amanda & Mike’s wedding as we started at the beach & worked our way back to the Wedgewood.  Their wedding ceremony site is nestled in a rose garden surrounded by majestic palm trees and the banquet room has recently undergone a full renovation. Their banquet room has a built in fireplace, fabulous bar, and beautiful golf course views – which I tend to take advantage of quite often for my Signature Artistic, Romantic and Sexy portraits on the green.

For the wedding day, Brooke had a signature dress from David’s Bridal with a beautifully beaded veil with crystal accents while Eric & his “men in black” were stylish in their Men’s Warehouse tuxedos.  Their Valentine’s Day Wedding was definitely a romantic and relaxing afternoon that everyone will remember over the years.  From the rich red tones to the to the song that Eric wrote & played for Brooke – which left everyone without a dry eye.  I did my best to choke back the sniffles as well so I could capture photographs while he was playing for Brooke.

So without further ado, here is a little slide show that put together of Brooke & Eric’s Wedding which will also have the Artistic Edits available on Pictage.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did capturing their day & have an awesome West Coast Wednesday – cheers!

Orange County + Huntington Beach + California + A Wedding Photographer with an eclectic taste in music will give you what I think the most diverse West Coast Wednesday Videos Of The Week.

This week’s video is from a group that breaks the mold with their music, lyrics, videos, fashion-sense & style.  I’ve been following them for a couple decades & I think that this week’s West Coast Wednesday Video has some raw flair and creativity that was ground breaking and chart topping back in the early 80’s.  In fact, their music was very “pop” and a lot more “happy” back then – but over the years, this band kept raising the bar in music that inspired some of today’s rap, pop and rock stars.

You may or may not have heard of a little band out of the UK called…

Depeche Mode (IPA: [dɛˈpɛʃ]de-PESH) are an English electronic band who formed in 1980, in Basildon, Essex. The group’s original line-up consisted of Dave Gahan (lead vocals), Martin Gore (keyboards, guitar, vocals, chief songwriter after 1981), Andrew Fletcher (keyboards) and Vince Clarke (keyboards, chief songwriter 1980–81). Vince Clarke left the band after the release of their 1981 debut album, and was replaced by Alan Wilder (keyboards, drums, production) with Gore taking over songwriting. Wilder left the band in 1995 and since then Gahan, Gore, and Fletcher have continued as a trio, enlisting the services of additional musicians for live performances.

Depeche Mode are one of the most successful, influential, longest-lived bands from the early 1980s. They have had forty-seven songs in the UK Singles Chart and #1 albums in UK, US and throughout Europe. According to EMI, Depeche Mode have sold over 100 million albums and singles worldwide[1], making them the most successful electronic music group in music history.[2][3] Q Magazine calls Depeche Mode “The most popular electronic band the world has ever known”.[4]

This week’s West Coast Wednesday Video Of The Week is from Depeche Mode & the video is “Just Can’t Get Enough.”  It’s definitely one of my favourites and I think it lends itself to a fresh and new year that we’re entering in.

But before I present you with this week’s feature of my West Coast Wednesday Video Of The Week and you’re thinking… Hey – I’d really like to get to know this eclectic Orange County Wedding Photographer in Huntington Beach, California, feel free to Contact Me or send me an email direct at david@esquirephotography.com.  You can also stay in touch with me in “real time” on TwitterFacebook and my Facebook Fan Page too.

So without further ado, I give you Depeche Mode’s West Coast Video Of The Week.  And, don’t just have an awesome West Coast Wednesday, but make it a positive one for someone else too – cheers!

Happy President’s Day Everyone!  I’ve been on lock-down here at Esquire Photography’s Headquarters working on this weekend’s events.  One of which is Ashley & David’s romantic Engagement Shoot at Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure in Anaheim.

I first met Ashley & David at Pamela & David’s Wedding back in July of 2008, so when I received an email from Ashley that she & David got engaged, I was so excited.  Not because I get to be their wedding photographer, but I knew that they were going to be a great couple judging by the amount of fun the three of us had back in 2008.

Fast forward to 2010 & I want to go on record that they didn’t just take it to the HNL (Ho… Nuh-Thah… Leh-Veh!) with the romance between them.  But that it was so cool as we all really got to know each other well while I was capturing romantic portraits where David proposed to Ashley and some other shots in little-known / “off the beaten path” spots in the parks.

After their Engagement Shoot we hung out at Avalon Cove in Disney’s California adventure for a couple of beverages & tasty snacks in the shade.  We even were graced by King David!  He not only graced us with his presence once, but an encore visit as well.  He told us how he is from Australia and owns part of Disneyland as well.  Ahhhhh yes.  There is never a dull moment when I’m “Oot & Aboot” (as they say in Canadia).  LOL!

So if you’re an Orange County or Los Angeles County Bride or Groom that wants to not only have a blast like we did Saturday at Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure during your Engagement Shoot – but also be able to share with your family and friends some of my Signature Romantic, Artistic & Sexy Portraits, feel free to contact me anytime.

You can also stay in touch with me in “real time” on Twitter, Facebook and my Facebook Fan Page too.  If you’re reading this tonight, you’ll probably catch me online right now.

By the way… Be sure to check back this Thursday the 18th for a special guest of my Wedding Tip Of The Week.  You’ll not only love what has to be shared – but the guest as well!

Without further ado, here is a collection of some of my favourite Romantic Portraits from Ashley & David’s Engagement Shoot at Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure in Anaheim and have a wonderful rest of your President’s Day – cheers!

Huntington Beach and Orange County are finally starting to dry up now that the rains have subsided for a while which is really awesome if you’re into outdoor sports and fitness.  In fact, today’s topic is actually related to fitness & nutrition as you’re preparing for your wedding.  Which is terrific because my good friends at Elegala.com have some wonderful insight for this week’s fantastic wedding day tip that I wanted to share with you.

So let’s say you’re a bride (or Groom) doing your best to get your fitness & nutrition dialed in for the big day.  Well, I for one can tell you that a. it’s so not easy to keep fitness & nutrition up to speed with the calendar that I lead and b. if you’re a “foodie” like me – that really makes it difficult to do.  As I’m sure you’re all aware – I’m a huge fan of Nachos & Newcastles (Yum!).

But we really and truly owe it to ourselves and our spouses to lead and maintain a level of fitness and nutrition that works for each of us.  If you follow my Twitter feed or Facebook comments, then you obviously know that I’m in the gym hitting up what I refer to as “Mr. Cardio” a minimum of 4 days a week and “Mr. Iron Man” for some free weights 1 day a week (If you’re reading this M-F from between 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., I’m there now).  Now everyone’s schedule obviously varies, but a little bit each day really helps me keep the wedding cake & delicious dinners off the waistline.  And it does wonders for the male ego too!  LOL!

But before I present you with this week’s wedding tip and you’re thinking… Hey – I’d really like to get to know this Orange County Wedding Photographer in Huntington Beach, California that is into his fitness & nutrition program, feel free to Contact Me on the Website or send me an email direct at david@esquirephotography.com.  You can also stay in touch with me in “real time” on Twitter, Facebook and my Facebook Fan Page too.

So without further ado, here are some fantastic ideas that I think you’ll enjoy & have a super Baby Friday – cheers!

PS, Check back next Thursday the 18th – I have something VERY EXCITING for you too!

This healthy exercise and nutrition guide will help you get in shape for the wedding day and beyond.

Of course you want to look fabulous on your wedding day – who doesn’t? Unfortunately, a gorgeous gown and killer accessories can only take you so far. The true pathway to looking and feeling amazing is paved by a healthy fitness and nutrition routine.

Ugh..you know that tired piece of advice is easier said than done. But that’s where we come in… We’ve outlined the basics to get you started towards a healthier you.

Fitness and Nutrition Basics:

Getting Started – Lifestyle Changes vs. Restrictive Dieting

The key here is simple changes you can incorporate into your daily routine that will gradually improve your health and the look of the body. In other words – no crash dieting. Extreme caloric deprivation is not only dangerous, it sets you up for failure since it’s impossible to maintain.

If you’re looking to lose a lot of weight, you’ll need to get cracking at least 6 months before your wedding day (or as soon as you read this!) Even if you’re just looking to tone up and drop a few pounds, start today. Why wait?

When it comes to losing or maintaining your weight, forget fad diets, forget the off-limit foods, forget the banned categories of foods. There is only one simple rule you need to know:

To lose weight – you must burn more calories (energy/exercise) than you take in (eat).

It’s all about calories in vs. calories out. (This is the very basic rule that I do my best with every day & it’s so totally spot on!)

Nutrition 101 (the calories-in part)

Get a general estimate of how many calories a day you’re burning, then build your meal plans around an equal amount of calories (to maintain) or slightly less calories (to lose). A handy free tool can be found at dailyplate.com. Here you can enter personal stats like height, weight, and weight loss goals – along with the various types of physical activity you do each day (not only at the gym, but also activities like cooking, cleaning, walking up stairs – they all count). The tool will then calculate the number of calories you should eat based on your goals.

Here are some simple guidelines to help you maintain your caloric goals, keep your energy level up, and get all the nutrients you need:

1) Eat 5-6 small meals a day
Give up the notion that you must starve yourself to lose weight. Your body is designed for survival, and part of its survival mechanism involves holding onto body fat to be used in times of food shortage. Skipping meals or eating a very low amount of calories causes your body to go into starvation mode, which slows your metabolism.

Three large meals do not provide your body with the constant flow of nutrients and energy it needs to increase your metabolism and burn fat. Strive to eat 5 or 6 small meals evenly spaced throughout the day.

2) Portion Control
Understand that the size of your stomach is about as big as your two fists. So at one meal, you should never eat more than two fists full of food. Here’s a general idea of the correct sized portions:

  • Protein – a deck of cards or the meaty part of your hand with the fingers cut off
  • Carbohydrates – make a fist and cut your hand in half (or about 1 cup)

3) Food Content – Focus on Fiber and Protein
Food without protein or fiber has little to no nutritional value (that’s what they mean by empty calories). With every meal you eat, you should aim to get about 10 grams of protein and about 5 grams of fiber – for a total of at least 60 grams of protein and 25 grams of fiber per day). This doesn’t mean you have to bring out the calculator every time you eat. Getting your daily amount of protein and fiber is easy if you’re eating 5-6 small meals a day consisting of foods that have at least a few grams of fiber and protein. Check the nutrition labels on the foods you buy.

Carbohydrates/Fiber
Forget the notion that all carbohydrates are evil. Complex carbohydrates rich in fiber are “good carbohydrates,” absorbed slowly into your system, giving you a steady energy supply. They can be found in whole grain breads, pasta and rice – also beans, fruits and veggies. The fiber in these foods also helps promote satiety, making you less likely to overeat.

When it comes to carbs, you should aim to have at least 3 servings of vegetables and 2 servings of fruit per day. Avoid any grain products with the word “enriched” on the label and pasta products with “semolina” in the ingredients; instead opt for those with whole grain, stone ground, and whole wheat. Same goes for items containing high fructose corn syrup (sugar) in the first three ingredients – skip ‘em!

Protein
Protein is necessary for muscular growth and aids in weight loss by:
1) requiring more energy to digest than other foods (i.e. burning more calories and helping with the calories in vs. calories out equation).
2) helping to preserve lean muscle tissue while you lose fat
3) slowing down the absorption of glucose into the bloodstream; reducing hunger and making it easier for the body to burn fat
4) promoting satiety – helping you feel full so you can stop eating sooner

Other Easy Nutrition tips:
Having difficulty sticking to this eating plan? Here are some small steps you can take to achieve your caloric goals:
– stay hydrated – drinking lots of water helps you stay hydrated and may also make you feel full (sometimes hunger pangs are actually a sign that you’re thirsty). How much should you drink? Multiply your total body weight by 75%; this is the total number of fluid ounces you should take in each day.
– sub. sugar free/low fat versions of your favorite snacks
– sub low fat or fat free dairy for whole fat versions
– switch to diet sodas
– replace sugar with splenda in recipes or other items you usually add sugar to
– limit alcohol intake – not only is alcohol empty calories (all sugar, no fiber or protein), but it usually leads to poor eating decisions or skipping workouts. Try your best to avoid it.

Exercise 101- (the calories-out part)

Getting Started – Establish an exercise routine you can live with. If you’re currently sedentary, don’t attempt to dive into an hour-a-day/seven days a week routine – because chances are, you won’t stick to it. Instead, increase your energy level with achievable goals; 30 minutes for three to four days a week is a good start for those who haven’t hit the gym in years. If you’re already pretty active, commit to taking it to the next level – either by adding a few extra minutes to your workouts, or increasing the intensity of your routines.

Regardless of your current fitness level, you should strive for an exercise routine that combines cardio, strength and flexibility.

Here’s an optimal fitness schedule for you to strive towards; depending on your current fitness level, working up to this routine may take more or less time:

Cardio Schedule – 3-4 cardiovascular workouts a week for 25-40 minutes. Pick activities that you enjoy and try to change it up – remember, exercise is meant to be fun. Take a fast walk or jog with your dog, go swimming, ride your bike, play tennis.

Strength Schedule – 3-4 strength workouts a week for 30 minutes. When strength training, you should work until fatigue – meaning the last repetition of each exercise should be extremely difficult. Don’t forget to include core and stabilization training; try incorporating physioballs, BOSU and discs into your workouts, or take a pilates class once a week.

Flexibility Schedule – Stretching will help you increase flexibility. Flexibility training can help avoid muscle imbalances, postural distortion and injuries. Stand tall, shoulders back, walk graceful and don’t forget to smile, this is your day!

No Time?
Let’s face it – we’re all pressed for time – especially busy brides-to-be. The most efficient way to get all your cardio, strength and flexibility training in is through interval or circuit training training. By doing short bursts of cardio and strength with minimal rest in between – you can get the most of your time.
