David Bowie Is A “Hero” With “Fashion” For Today’s West Coast Wednesday Video Of The Week In Huntington Beach

Good morning from Huntington Beach everyone!  There are so many amazing things going on here in Orange County that I just don’t know where to start.  I think a good spot is that one of my fantastic brides; Shelby and her amazing fiance’; Matt who I recently photographed for a 12 Hour Engagement Shoot in Anaheim, San Diego & Orange County are being featured on WeTV for David Tutera’s “My Fair Wedding” this month.  So it looks like I really need to trim down on the waist and I’m so excited that I’ll be on WeTV again like I was for Kim & Ken’s “Platinum Wedding” back in September 2008.  This is super super super exciting!

That’s happening, I’m shooting a lot of events every week still through the fall and… if you’ve been following my Twitter and Facebook updates – I’ve been working on the Super Secret Project that is getting ready to go live after Thanksgiving.  I can’t say much about it just yet, but it is Super Secret and it’s for Brides and Grooms.  I may share (accidentally leak) a hint here & there between now and then – so… anything is possible.  But for now, my lips are sealed.  Hee hee hee!

Then there’s the David Bowie tribute album: “We Were So Turned On.”  Can I just say that I’m uber-excited about that!  Not just because there’s all these amazing artists involved in the program or that my all time favourite band; Duran Duran performing “Boys Keep Swinging” on my fellow Durannie; Kitty Amsbry’s website: “Gimme A Wristband!“, but that it is one absolutely amazing artist; David Bowie that is being covered and replayed with a different flair.

If you don’t know too much about David Bowie, check out a pinch of his history from Wikipedia.  It’s absolutely incredible!

Bowie’s innovative songs and stagecraft brought a new dimension to popular music in the early 1970s, strongly influencing both its immediate forms and its subsequent development. A pioneer of glam rock, Bowie, according to music historians Schinder and Schwartz, has joint responsibility with Marc Bolan for creating the genre.  At the same time, he inspired the innovators of the punk rock music movement—historiographer Michael Campbell calls him “one of punk’s seminal influences”.

While punk musicians trashed the conventions of pop stardom, Bowie moved on again—into a more abstract style of music making that would in turn become a transforming influence. Biographer David Buckley writes, “At a time when punk rock was noisily reclaiming the three-minute pop song in a show of public defiance, Bowie almost completely abandoned traditional rock instrumentation.  Bowie’s record company sought to convey his unique status in popular music with the slogan, “There is old wave, there is new wave, and there is Bowie…”  Musicologist James Perone credits him with having “brought sophistication to rock music”, and critical reviews frequently acknowledge the intellectual depth of his work and influence.

So how appropriate for me to share not just one, but TWO of my favourite David Bowie songs.  First, there’s Fashion – which has always been a classic that I loved since I first saw it.  Then there’s Heroes – which is a very introspective, romantic and moving piece.
