The Toscars

Good evening & from EPHQ everyone!  I’m one international photographer who’s totally excited to share some really fantastic news with you while I’m burning some of that midnight oil you know I love to do.

Now as you had seen on Twitter & Facebook – 2012 was bursting at the seams with Portraits, Engagement Shoots, Weddings, Red Carpet Events, two commercial photo shoots for celebrity designer; Kate Mesta featuring Boo Boo Stewart AND Brittany Curran, the TV program; Picture Me – Picture You filmed around the world entirely on a mobile phone AND being voted in the TOP 3 as OC’s BEST Wedding Photographer.  It was a really amazing 2012!

Then here we are in a new year and 2013 is off to an awesome start with the brand new redesign of the Esquire Photography website, the John B Concert I had the honour of photographing, the EPIC Military Discount Program, AND with two new corporate sponsors – it’s been quite a busy 29 days so far.

BUT!  As if the universe was going to stop there… NOPE!  I was contacted by the professional actress & artist; Burgandi Phoenix to see if I would be interested in being the Set Photographer for her team that’s filming “Skyfell (And I Can’t Get UP) for The Toscars this weekend that will be shown on Feb. 19th.  It took me literally all of about 60 seconds to look at my calendar, move some things around & give her a resounding YES.

If you’re not too familiar with The Toscars, check out this bit from their website:

We parody the nominated movies for best feature. Teams were chosen on Jan 25th, 2012  – Everyone had three weeks to complete there short film.  Films were due by Monday 20th.  To produce, write, star in, costume, make-up and edit a 5 minute short parody of the film you were assigned – Teams were chosen randomly.

The Tuesday before Oscars we held a red carpet event and screen all the films.  Everybody had a ballot to vote on their favorite toscar, Whactor, Whactress, Best Supporting Whactor and Whactress.  Teams were chosen at random and were lead by two team leaders who acted as both producer and director – unless they would rather cast someone else from their team to take their place.

This was the most fun we’ve had all Oscar season!

Can I just say; “Wholly Nachos & Newcastles!”  What an awesome experience this is going to be this upcoming weekend!  :-)

Newport Beach PhotographerGood afternoon everyone!  I’m one Newport Beach Photographer at EPHQ who’s totally excited to share a new photo shoot with you.  Especially after a full morning of being interviewed for an article on “The Photo Life” – a photography with my partner vendor; Pictage.

Back in March of 2011, I had the honour of photographing Bernadette & Vlad’s Laguna Beach Wedding at Casino San Clemente – in Orange County where it was literally a full day of amazing memories, laughs and tears of joy.  Well… fast forward and I recently heard from Bernadette & Vlad they had a lovely little daughter; Paloma and I was able to photograph their new baby/family portraits with them at their home.

As I thought would happen, their daughter; Paloma was everything that’s awesome about Bernadette & Vlad – smiling all the time & having fun in front of the camera.  In fact, at times I thought she was going to take over the entire shoot!  :-)

From the minute I showed up to about two, maybe three minutes before I left, Paloma rocked the entire 90 minute portrait photo shoot, which is really amazing for a five month old baby.  But the minute I was about to pop into the Mini – she was falling asleep in Vlad’s arms.  Soooooo totally cute!

I’ve put together a lovely video of their portrait photo shoot below, but before you look down below and you’re thinking…  Hey – I’d really like to get to know this international photographer who loves music & fashion, photography and art, feel free to contact me anytime.

Newport Beach Wedding PhotographerGood morning from Esquire Photography HQ everyone!  Before I kick off an awesome day of projects in my office, I read this list from one of my colleagues; Skip Cohen who was sharing a list from another colleague; Scott Bourne and I just had to share it with you.

I believe the title is perfect & even though there’s quite a bit of humour in this list – the fact remains, people really think they’re a professional photographer if they have these attributes or behaviours.

So with that said, I give you; “You Might Be A Bad Photographer If:”

1. You think that merely owning a Leica means your images will hang in a museum.

2. You know nothing about and care nothing about your subject.

3. You need to get drunk or stoned before you think making pictures is fun.

4. You think that paying extra for the “PRO” account on Flickr makes you a professional photographer.

5. You spend more time explaining your photographs than you do making them.

6. You think that picking up your camera once a year during a national holiday means you’re avoiding getting rusty.

7. You spend more time on camera forums belittling other people’s photographs than you do trying to figure out how to make your own better.

8. You spend ANY time complaining that your pictures don’t get enough LIKES on Facebook or Flickr.

9. You’re more interested in making photographs that cause the cool kids to promote you on Google+ than you are telling stories with your camera that matter to your subjects.

10. You think that pixel-peeping and measure-beating will cause you to be a successful and famous artist – or – to get that girl you met in college to like you.

11. You’re too tired and hungover at any of the big conventions to make the workshop programs you signed up for, so you spend the day in bed.

12. Your website galleries have way too many images that are no better than what “Uncle Harry” could shoot.

13. You’ve spent too much time talking about your camera gear instead of showing you know how to use it.

14. Your holiday cards were bought at CVS rather than created with your own images.

15. Your portfolio is loaded with images from workshops where you stood right behind the instructor during a hands-on shooting session.

Not too bad huh!  If you have any you’d like to add to this, be sure to add them in the comments below.

Newport Beach Photographer

Good morning & from EPHQ everyone!  I’m one Newport Beach Photographer who’s been dying to share with you one of the most prolific, innovative & bleeding edge musicians & artists in the world; Gary Numan.  WHEW HEW!

As you saw on Twitter & Facebook – 2012 was bursting at the seams with Portraits, Engagement Shoots, Weddings, Red Carpet Events, two commercial photo shoots for celebrity designer; Kate Mesta featuring Boo Boo Stewart AND Brittany Curran, the TV program; Picture Me – Picture You filmed around the world entirely on a mobile phone AND being voted in the TOP 3 as OC’s BEST Wedding Photographer.  It was a really amazing 2012!

AND now – 2013 is off to an awesome start with the brand new redesign of the Esquire Photography website, the John B Concert I had the honour of photographing, the EPIC Military Discount Program, AND two new sponsors – it’s been quite a busy 21 days so far.

Ok… enough of the current events.  I have a totally awesome concert that I photographed at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles to share with you featuring international recording artist; Gary Numan.

If you’re not too familiar with Gary Numan, check out this excerpt from his totally incredible and quite lengthy Bio spanning over three decades on Wikipedia:

“Gary Numan is an English singer, composer and musician, most widely known for his chart-topping 1979 hits “Are ‘Friends’ Electric?” (as Tubeway Army) and “Cars”. His signature sound consists of heavy synthesiser hooks fed through guitar effects pedals.

Numan is considered a pioneer of commercial electronic music. His use of themes from science fiction and his combination of aggressive punk energy with electronics have been widely imitated.”

That’s just a small pinch of information from his bio.  For me, it all started in 1979 when I first heard “Cars” on the radio and pretty much had my mind explode with creativity.  I was enveloped in the ethereal and industrial synth sound from the song like a burrito.  It quite literally blew my mind!  Then when he released “Telekon” in 1980 – I was a fan of his work from then on.

So when I arrived at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles for his performance, I knew I was in for a treat like none other.  To paint the picture in words of what the event was like wouldn’t do it justice.  From the tsunami of sound crashing into the audience to the standing room only crowd returning the energy back to the stage – the Gary Numan concert was a perfect marriage of musical theatre.  Even as I’m typing this story, the hairs on the back of my neck is standing up remembering how epic this event was

Now prepare to sit back, turn up the volume with your favourite morning, afternoon or evening beverage and check out Gary Numan’s MEGA video below.  You’ll recognize the song too & it’s “I Die, You Die” – which has always been one of my favourite hand-raising anthems of Gary Numan’s.

Also!  If you’re thinking…  Hey – I’d really like to get to know this international photographer who loves music & fashion, photography and art, feel free to contact me anytime.
